Hi, my husband and I and our 18 year old and 16 year old are headed for a whirlwind 12-day Italy trip in mid-May. We have one day (one night) in Florence, but it just happens to be a Monday. I have train tickets and accommodations all purchased for the entire trip, but I should have done my homework on museums because I didn't know that the Accademia and Uffizi are both closed on Mondays! So I'm looking for alternative suggestions. We'll do the Duomo and Rick's self-guided walk. Other than that, what would you recommend? A food tour? A half-day Tuscany excursion? Thanks for your input!
There are so many other museums and sights to see
Not sure which are open Monday
Churches will be open
We especially enjoyed the Bargello, San Marco Museum, Santa Croce, Santa Maria Novella, Medici chapel and palace, Palazzo Vecchio…
We plan to visit the Galileo museum when we visit next month
There are so many things that you would need 10 Mondays to see everything that is open on Monday.

I worry about a self-described "whirlwind" trip with only 1 night in Florence, but that's not the question.
In such a short timeframe, I would not spend too much time in museums anyway. Best to walk around the city, including a cathedral visit, and include 1-2 open sights if they are on your way!
Thank you for the links! Very helpful!
As for the judgment on our self-described whirlwind trip, I lived and studied in Austria for a while during college. I have been to Italy many times and have done in-depth visits in a number of different places (although never Florence). My husband's grandparents are from Sicily. We have not been able to come back to Italy for some time. This is our older children's first trip. We're leaving our 2 little ones with relatives, so we have very limited time and wanted to give them just a taste of a number of different places so that next time we can be more focused. Don't know why I feel like I need to explain myself--how about you just give everyone the benefit of the doubt and realize that everyone travels at different times in their lives for different purposes (and dependent on finances). Might not be what you would choose, but no need to make judgments on it.
It was not a judgement, just a concern (this forum is often used by fairly inexperienced travellers)! All good if you know what you're doing ☺️.
