I have one day to "scope out" Cinque Terre. Plan to return but will be in La Spezia and want to do an easy and short day trip by train to see what Cinque Terre is all about. What are a few "don't miss" places, sites, or eating establishments that I could cover in a short day?. Leaving tomorrow!

If you are physically fit and like to hike Take the train to Monterosso al mare and hike to Vernazza 2 hours before sundown for some great views
You can pretty much see every town they are short 10 minute train rides.
But don't miss Vernazza Corniglia
See Manarola at night
Sorry can't say on eating establishment but someone here might.

This is a little early in the season for Cinque Terre, you may find that many businesses are closed still. The charm is the villages themselves with the great views, wandering the towns, and hiking the trails. There are not really any "must see" places such as museums.
