One day for Florence.

My wife and I are going on the RS 7 day Rome tour late September early October. The tour ends on Sunday morning but we won't be leaving until Monday. Is Sunday a good day to visit Florence? Will there be enough time for a good dinner in Florence and time for the train back to Rome? Am I trying to fit too much in?
Thanks in advance.

Personally I would take the train back to Rome and have dinner in Rome with no pressure to end to catch a train and then find and check into another hotel. Sunday is part of the weekend and it will be busier than a weekday at that same time of year.

Thank you Frank.
That has been what I was thinking. With restaurants not opening until later in the evening, I was afraid that we would not make the last train back to Rome.
Thanks again for the advice.

We ate dinner at a restaurant called “The Golden View.” It over looks the Ponte Vecchio Bridge. We ate dinner at around 6:00 pm and got a table right next to the window with a great view of the bridge and the Arno River. They serve lunch there as well. We did not have a reservation for dinner, but had to promise that we would leave by 8:30 pm. You might want to check out their website. The food was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the view was amazing. If you eat dinner any later than we did, you will definitely need a reservation.

Long way to go for dinner -- have you considered Orvieto to experience a "hill town" ?

Florence is worth a day trip. We did it in mid May on a Saturday. It will be busy though. We caught the early train up and the late train back which allowed more than enough time to see the sights. As far as dining, we had an early dinner. In my opinion there are plenty of places open early enough for dinner. But if you're wanting to eat later you may want to eat back in Rome since it will allow you more leasure time after dinner.
