What to do? We will have one day in Naples should we do Pompeii or Capri.
I have been to both Pompeii and Capri and they are very diff. So what is your interest? archaeological ruins and history or walking and enjoying beautiful views and the tranquilty of a lovely unique breezy, & calm island of Capri. Only you can decide.
JS raises the critical question since those location are totally different. Pompeii is easily and cheaply done from Naples. Seeing the National Museum is a good suggestion but I don't think it is reasonable to do both in one day. Pompeii or the museum can easily absorb a whole day by itself. And, if there on a Monday, the museum is closed. Let us know your preference and we probably have more suggestions for you. O' and ignore the not-so-subtle negative comments about cruising and cruisers. Cruising can be a great and very economical way to see Europe.
Dennis - I would suggest jumping on The Hydrofoil and going to Sorrento - just coming into Marina Grande is fantastic - check out the old town section with it's shops and cafes then - from the central square, take a 25 minute bus ride to Positano(sit on the right side of the bus)- one of the most spectacular sights on The Amalfi Coast -have lunch and back to Sorrento for the hydrofoil back to Napoli - I've done it many times and it is SUPER!!!!
And Dennis - The hydrofoil station is within a few hundred yards of your ship's dock - easy to do!
Depending on the time of year or day of the week, there will be a difference in the ferry schedule, so plan a trip to Capri carefully. Take the earliest hydrofoil available and make certain that there is one coming back at a time that will give you enough time to make it back shipboard.
