3 friends staying 2 weeks at Lilliano in Tuscany with rental car for exploring. Our budget may accomadate a one day cooking class. I've seen some websites; any recommendations from your own experience? This will be mid September.
Thanks, Betty
Some friends and I took a great cooking class in 2010 at the Castello di Oliveto in Castelfiorentino, Tuscany. It's a winery and they also offer classes. We were a group of 8 so I'm not sure if they would do one for 3 or could add you onto another group. We had a wonderful time! The class was very hands-on, in the large kitchen. We made several appetizers, a meat ragu (sauce), ravioli stuffed with meat, stuffed tomatoes/zucchini, and cookies. Everything was from scratch, including the ravioli where we started with flour and water. Then we sat down in their lovely dining room and ate it all, along with some of their wines. An apron, hat and bag were included. I can't tell you the cost since it was included as part of our trip. Hope you find something - I love to take cooking classes as part of my travels. Will be in Paris this Fall and will take several there, maybe one at Le Cordon Bleu!
Search "Tuscany Cooking Classes" on this site and you will find your question has been asked and answered many times before. In other words, many have provided an opinion on their experience.
We did one in '08 at Villa Pandolfini just outside Florence and it was a good experience. As wine is served throughout the class, they pick you up and drop you off at your hotel if you don't want to take your car. You can also add a tour of the vineyards and a wine tasting. http://www.tuscany-cooking-class.com
To review those listed in Rick's Italy book, it's easiest to look in the index under "Cooking classes" which lists options in Florence, Lucca, Cortona, Montepulciano, and Volterra.
