OMG - The Dolomites are incredible!

Thanks to all who helped out with all my questions!

We're based in Val Gardena, driving up from Venic's airport yesterday over the Gardena Pass. Wow, is all I have to say. We went up to Seceda today and are thinking of Alpe Di Suise tomorrow, unless anyone else has another lift they'd recommend. If so, let me know! (We bought the Gardena pass). Being landscape photographers, the more scenic, the better!

Does anyone know if wildflowers are blooming now at Alpe Di Suisi?

Also, neither of us got carsick, thanks to Bonnie and wrist bands :)

Thanks again!

Theresa

Glad you are having a good time and (apparently) good weather!

You might ask locally about the wildflower situation. They were in bloom this time last year.

Definitely want to go to the Dolomites on the next trip. Closest thing we did was two years ago, when we took the train across the Alps from Lucerne to Chiasso on the Swiss/Italo border, switched trains then on to Milan. Spectacular ride, and that wasn't even the Bernina Express, just a normal train.

I'm an off-season traveler, however, and I'm asking what would be the earliest month a trip to the Dolomites would make sense from a weather standpoint. April, or would I have to wait until May?

Jay,

April is too early, between ski season and summer season. The lifts will mostly be closed until early June. Here is the schedule for the summer in the Val Gardena as an example. Other areas might vary, but not by much. June through September is the best time if you want to hike and use the lifts to the high areas.
