Has anyone heard of, or taken a olive oil factory tour from Florence, Venice or Rome?
I have not but you should have good luck finding a farm that produces it near Florence, Many agriturismi have olive trees and may have their own press and production. I Googled "Florence agriturismo olive oil" and came up with a number of options. Try something near Chianti. Makes for a nice day in the country.
We did an olive oil factory tour as an add on to a visit to the Carli Bros. Olive Oil Museum in Imperia, Liguria - a mere 3 1/2 hours from Florence. The museum is quite good - so good we wrote an article about it and spent a bundle at the company store adjacent. They also do tours of the pressing facility, but that's just in the autumn. However, after the pressing, an olive oil factory is really just a bottling facility. Unless you're traveling in autumn and can see the olive harvest and pressing as well, it may not meet your expectations.
Thank you Laurel and Mike for your replies.
We're visiting in June, so it sounds like that's outside the olive harvesting/bottling season.
