Wondering when, (month, area) is the best time for harvesting olives? Any recommendations for farms that allow visitors to help with the harvesting?
Thanks,
Dana
Here is a place in Umbria that combines olive picking with cooking classes, but I suspect you'd be looking at next year: http://www.cookinumbria.it/the-olive-harvest/. Here in N. California we grow a lot of olives and make some very fine olive oil. Picking olives, whether by hand or machine is dirty work. If the olives are for oil getting them crushed quickly is essential as age and heat are enemies. If you observe this process, harvest to crush, it makes you want to get out of the way!
