Old sim card

I have a sim card from Italy that I used last year. Does anyone know if I will be able to load time/data on it again this year?

I would check in the other RS forum on Technology Tips (under Trip Reports and Tips), but my guess is if it was an up--to-date SIM card last year, it's probably still good. That is just an educated guess, however. If you don't find an answer in Technology Tips, post your question there.

If you are going back to Italy, take it along. Go to a place like that where you purchased it, and ask them. The only risk is that you might lose it, as sim cards are pretty small.

Most prepaid European SIM cards become inactive after a few months of non-use. It varies by the mobile company and their policies. I have a Dutch Vodafone SIM I bought in 2017, and it remains active as long as used or topped off every six months. Since I didn't travel for a few years during the pandemic, I simply sent myself a text with it every six months in the US (roaming is about 60 eurocents per text - but there was still a few euros of credit on it anyway).

But it seems some Italian mobile companies have more generous policies. See below. It is worth taking the SIM with you back to Italy and see if you could still use it, but you'll surely have to add credit to it to keep using it, and it may not really save you much money vs. just buying a new SIM.

If it's from TIM (Telecom Italia) the phone number can't be revived after one year.

ThanksAll.
It is from Tim. And it was exactly one year ago today. I just thought about it. So will see what happens. It's not saving money. It's having a working phone when I arrive. Has anyone had experience buying one online? I did it for Mexico and it worked well

Don't you remember the Italian number that begins with +39 ? Put the italian sim in an old phone and try to call it, if the phone rings the SIM is still working.

You could also register to Tim's site, check your personal page and try to top the sim up. I'd buy a flat monthly plan on the same site if I were you: paying per minute/giga is extremely expensive.
