Ok- give me a hand. Stalemate with 3 Rome hotels!

My husband and I will be in Rome next May and are stuck deciding between three different hotels. They all look greT for different reasons.
Hotel Modigliani - lovely 3 star with great price with Rick steves 10% discount, great service
Hotel Smeraldo- less expensive, best location but not as posh
Relais Teateo Argentina- bigger and traditional but on busy street?

As you can see I think I'm leaning towards hotel Modigliani. Have any of you been to theses hotels? Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hotel Modigliani it is recommended by someone who really knows, Rick.
Other choices:
Busy st never a gd choice espec in Rome.
Less posh could be gritty or less comfortable.

I stayed at Hotel Modigliani and was mostly very happy with it. My room was next to the stairwell, and I could hear other guests treading heavily down the stairs to breakfast early in the morning. The staff were great, breakfast was excellent, the location was fine for me - a short walk to the Trevi fountain, around the corner from a metro station, supermarket a couple blocks away, several good restaurants very close.

Hotel Smeraldo never struck me as gritty. Small showers but never gritty. We really enjoyed our stay there and would stay again.

We stayed at the Modigliani. It's in a very quiet neighborhood--not to be underrated when some hotels, though lovely, overlook a cafe with tables outside just below your window, with people enjoying themselves until 2am. (Not that I'm complaining. Time to have a late-night snack!)

It's also very close to the Spanish Steps, and to a Metro stop, which is very handy.

I would stay there again.
