Has anyone tried to download city street maps on the iPhone so you don't have to depend on wifi or roaming to get map info. Is there anything out there that uses the GPS feature of the iPhone to show where you are on those maps. thanks
I've read a favorable review of the TomTom app with European maps which doesn't need a data feed.
I bought a few for my phone from various tourguide-like apps. Never used one of them. I don't know if they can use GPS when the phone's in airplane mode, however. For the most part, your hotel will have a paper map for you, and we ended up using them - for the most part. Venice is too intricate for a hotel map to be of any help, it actually hurt us a few times - though it's never all that bad getting lost in Venice, it's fun and unavoidable, really. If you don't like the hotel maps, though, there were a few I though looked helpful when I bought them :)
