Officina della Bistecca - Dario Cecchini

Has anyone tried this restaurant/experience in Panzano in Chianti?

It was featured in a Netflix show some years back, and they really made it look like a place to go and try.

However there are very mixed reviews in various places online. Some people love it, some people think it's terrible. I am sure this can be the case with any restaurant, if you catch it (or the waiter) on the wrong night, it could leave a terrible impression...meanwhile the next night someone could have the time of their life.

Looking for any honest feedback from any RS friends who have been here. We'll be renting a house about 35-40 minutes away outside of Cerbaia, and wondering if it's worth the trip (or the detour on the way back from a day out in the countryside)

I would plan on visiting with my wife, and 7 & 12 year old kids. Possibly with some friends who we are sharing the house with, if they were up for the experience. My family loves meat, and if they put a decent show on of things, it could be a memorable experience. (or a nightmare)

Thanks,

Pre-pandemic, we went at lunchtime with another couple and despite misgivings had a great time. Dario and company are the real deal and offer a very entertaining time. The meat was really good and various and copious. The ambiance was fascinating and enjoyable and at times uproarious. However, I can understand how some folks would come away with a different experience. The ability to be entertained depended on where you were seated and the people around you. We were seated near the grills which provided a lot to watch. Near us were a group of young and lively Italians who were gregarious and entertaining in their own right. The wine flowed freely and amplified the experience. I saw that other people were seated farther way from the center of the action, or on the outside terrace had a less convivial experience. The vegetarian in our group had a much more mundane food offering. In short, we had a fun and memorable time, even though we probably wouldn't do it again. So go - you pays your money and you takes your chances. Afterward, walking around the lower and upper town will help work off the excesses of lunch.
