My brother and I are going to Rome for a week. We will have a bus tour but will have lots of time on our own. I amcertain the bus tour will hit the well known tourist attractions so any suggestions of hidden treasures(ie. restaraunts, night life, entertainment) to take in while we are there? We would like to either rent a car or scooter to take in the city, would love to hear an siggestions!!

I can't recall anyone here ever recommending a car to see Rome. After you're there, you'll know why.
Regarding renting a scooter to see Rome, I think you'll find this discussion thread of interest, especially see the advice in several posts by Ron, an American resident of Rome who has hands on experience with motorinos in Rome traffic.

ok...some (including Our Fearless Leader & Benefactor) recommend Monte Testaccio for nightlife (the recommendation was from 2008, I haven't been there but assume it's still thriving).
