Off-Season are Gondola Ride prices negotiable?

I'll be there in two weeks and it will be chilly so I was wondering if maybe luck would have it I can negotiate a cheaper price? My travel buddy really doesn't want to pay for one so I might be solo.

I've been to Venice once (out of 6 trips) in Winter. I frankly had no desire to get out on the water in a paddle boat with the weather the day I was there--windy.

They had wooden sidewalks all over St. Marks Square due to high tides overflowing the canals.

It's just more enjoyable in April and May, but I'll take it anytime.

I am pretty sure that gondola fares are regulated, so they are not negotiable at any time and are the same no matter who you use. They do get more expensive in the evening, so try to go before sunset.

If you want to, there is no harm in trying.

I went to a gondola dock a bit off the beaten path and negotiated a 30 minute ride which did not include the Grand Canal - just a crossing of it at one point. We did some small canals. It was charming and we did not pay the "list" price.

Just talk to one of the drivers quietly and politely and see if they will do something for you.
