For our trip to Milan in July, I have an Opel Zafira (or similar) with automatic transmission reserved at the Enterprise near the central train station. We arrive on a Friday afternoon and will pick up the car first thing Saturday morning. It is critical that I get a car of this size and with an automatic. What are the chances they have the car I reserved? I will not have time to run around and find an alternative if they don't. I will probably visit their office the day before. My thinking that the downtown location will have fewer options than at the airport. Any advice or experience you may have is greatly appreciated.

I use Enterprise almost exclusively in both the US and elsewhere if I can because I prefer their service. Unfortunately, I don't always get the car I am expecting when I arrive. Since you need a specific car, if it were me, I would call and ask to speak with the manager and let them know how important it is for you. I think you are right to go the day before as well as a reminder as well.

When I rented from Hertz, I specified an AT in my reservation and got it.
Since ERAC shoews the Zafira ( Or similar) as a 5 psgr AT, that is what you should get. It may be a different make/model, but should have the same specs , (i.e. 5 psgrs, AT)
Call the Friday when you get in to re-confirm. Or if you are staying close enough to the train station, drop in.
I saw ERAC has airport, train station and in town locations in Milan. Be sure you know which location you selected.

I think visiting the office is a good idea, but still no guarantee. The problem is automatics are scarce in Europe and my experience has been 1 for 2. In Nice I reserved a mid sized car with AT. When I got there the only AT equipped vehicle was slightly larger than a Fiat 500. My daughter is fortunately small and, we packed light, so the luggage fit in the trunk, daughter in the back seat, barely. I reserved the same size vehicle in Dubrovnik and got a Mercedes 300! Jackpot! Both were through Auto Europe.
