Would like to know if you are planning on arriving earlier and leaving the tour later? Other basic questions.

I'm not on your tour date but did this one a few years ago.
I'd not recommend staying extra nights in Orta San Giulio. I would spend at least 2 nights in Milan. Tour tour leader will organize exit transport for everyone depending on where you are going. For people going directly to the airport, they will group you with others who are leaving at the same time.
I recommend at least one extra night in Padua, 2 if you can do it and of course you'd fly in to Venice so maybe you'd have enough time to stay over a few nights there?
DO take a waterproof rain jacket with a hood!
