October Itinerary

We are doing a Transatlantic cruise on October 30 from Rome. We want to add about 7 days prior to the departure. Considering the weather at this time of year what would be the best itinerary? We have been to Rome, Venice, Amalfi Coast, and most of the touristy areas. We are active seniors who enjoy the beautiful scenery and good food and wine. We would like to spend 3 days in each place and can train from place to place. We haven't made airline reservations yet. We live in San Diego. We would like to be in Rome the night before the cruise, October 29. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Sheila & Jeff

" most of the touristy areas". Did that include Florence and nearby towns in Tuscany and Umbria? It would be easy to depend a week there, and it would be a relatively short train ride back to Rome.

We have been to Tuscany and Florence but open to suggestions. We certainly haven't seen it all. We have been to Perugia but not Marches or other towns in Umbria.

Orvieto, Assisi, Siena, Lucca, Bologna. Not all of them, just laying out some options. You could spend the whole time in Bologna and take a bunch of day-trips. Bologna has a huge historic district with many arcaded streets, making it comparatively comfortable for wandering around if you get unlucky with the weather; October can be rather wet by Italian standards.
