October Italy Packing List

A friend and I will be in several areas of Italy in mid-October, and traveling in this capacity for the first time. What are the must haves for clothing, etc? I read that temps are in the mid 60's. Is this a rainy/wet season as well?

Since you live in Colorado, plan to wear what you would here in October. the weather at that time is unsettled as we move from summer to fall.

Take a light weight fleece jacket, and always carry some lightweight rain gear, and you will have the correct layers.

It can rain/snow anytime. Better prepared than not.
Marmot and ISIS make some nice ladies rain jackets that pack very light. You can find this at REI in Denver. Shop the flagship store off I-25 for the best selection. For a nice selection of ISIS, try Rivers in Frisco on Main Street. ISIS also makes some nice lightweight, stretchy pants that are perfect for travel. Long pants that you can roll up into capri pants...or capri pants are perfect for Oct travel. Skip the shorts and take a skirt. Take at least one long sleeve shirt that has sleeves that roll up to 3/4 length.

Evenings will be cooler. All this depends on the areas you are traveling. Sicily will be the warmest, the northern part of Italy the coolest.

I just spent this past October in Italy and it was cool in the morning (I wore a light canvas polo jacket) and was fine. During the day, you do not need a jacket (I wore a short sleve polo shirt) and it was very hot in the sun. You really do not need anything heavy!!!!

HI we were in Venice, Florence, and Rome at the end of Oct. last year. The only time we wore a jacket was in Venice at night. It was very hot by the time we were in Rome and I wished I had more short sleeved shirts. Also I wish I had more jeans. Everyone had on jeans everywhere. It only rained for a very short time in Venice. We may have just hit a heat wave, but it was great weather.
