October 4th in Florence

I'm noticing that alot of sights are closed on Sunday Oct 4th which normally are suppose to be open.
I can't figure out what is going on.
Does anyone know?
Thanks

If museums are not open for advance booking, then that must be because it is free entrance day for all the state-run museums in Florence (every first Sunday of the month). In addition, entrance to city-run museums is free for residents or anyone born in Florence. Is something else specifically closed?

Oct. 4 is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, which is a pretty big deal in Italy, I'm guessing.

St. Francis of Assisi is Italy's patron saint and it's a holiday. However not sure if that holiday is so important to warrant closures of Museums.
Generally the only holidays when the Uffizi are closed are Jan 1, May 1, Christmas day, that's it.

The following are not open for reservations on October 4th -
Accademia,
Medici Chapel,
Pitti Palace,
Uffizi Gallery.

I can't make reservations for any of these on October 4th. Thus my concern.
Also, since we are not Florence residents, would we be able to enter a museum on a free Sunday?
Thanks for info on St Francis.

Anyone can enter museums on free Sundays, but expect crowds at the more popular ones. It might be a good day to see less visited sights.

It is unlikely any of this has anything to do with the feast of St. Francis, unless that is a secular national holiday in Italy. Liturgically, when a feast day occurs on a Sunday, the celebration of the Resurrection on Sunday trumps the feast day. So the feast of St. Francis would not be celebrated as a religious celebration on a Sunday.
