October 11th - 20th Italian Rivera Suggestions

Hello all!
Ended up with some last minute time off in October with the dates above with my wife.

Has anyone every swam in any of these areas in October as we'd love to have a least 1-2 beach or cove swim days to relax aside from seeing the beautiful towns?

What we love:

Food variety: My wife has a severe shellfish allergy (Sicily was a bit tough for us here!), so diverse culinary options are a must.

Vibe: A day or two at a beach club or swimming in turquoise waters, stunning architecture, historic churches, colorful homes, and charming little villages.

Pacing: Great local wines and the simple art of sitting at a café, having a coffee, and people-watching.

Given our travel style and the time of year, what would you do? If you’ve traveled to any other spots during mid-to-late October, I’d love to hear about your experience with the weather, crowds, and what’s actually open!

Thank you!

The 5 villages of the Cinque Terre (Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore) are a popular destination and October will still have plenty of people and nothing will be shut down, although many beach clubs will have indeed shut down and the beach will be the typical free beach (no umbrella or chairs for rent) you have in America. Other towns along the rail line I like are Moneglia, Camogli, Sestri Levante, just to name a few. In terms of ability to swim in those waters, in late October the water temperature will likely have dropped well below 70 degree F. That is still higher than the Pacific Ocean water temperature in Malibu, California at its peak in August, but so you know.

I swam the third week in September in Camogli but the water was very cold, for me.

I love the weather in Liguria in October, but I am more of a walk-on-the-beach type, not a swimmer. Plenty of food beyond shellfish and IMO, some of the finest cuisine in Italy.

The Adriatic Coast is quite nice, too. We were in Pesaro Oct 1-5 a few years ago and many Germans were using the beach and in the water, but the Italian beach facilities were closed.
