Our flight will arrive in Rome at 6:30pm. Our original plan was to take the hop-on and -off bus to gain our first look at the city, only when I found out the last bus depart at 6:35pm each night from Termini. This is our first trip to Rome, so do any of you have other suggestions of what can we do on our first night there? (Prob. will get into the city at around 7:30pm?)
Alternatively, try a nice stroll (Rick's Dolce Vita night walk perhaps?) after dinner and then collapse into bed.
Don't schedule anything that requires precise timing--that's just asking for your flight to be late. Walking will also help you combat jetlag. Stroll around, eat some gelato, and just enjoy being in Roma!
A casual stroll and gelato sounds great! let me check with Rick's Dolce Vita night walk, and see if we can handle it. thanks for the advice!
If you are near the Trevi Fountain area, it is fun to see that at night. By the time you get off the plane, get your luggage, get into the city and find and check into your hotel it will probably be almost 8:30 or later. You'll probably be exhausted but so excited to that a walk would be good.
Marie, you are probably right :) My husband has been counting down already! This is our 1st year anniversary trip and first time to Italy, so we are super excited! We love traveling and jet lag never seem to bother us too much in our past trips. We dont like to pack our trip, but at the same time, I dont see us sleeping right the way either. A night walk around the fountain sounds so romantic. Thanks for the advice.
Hi Joann,
My husband and I are also going to Italy in October for our 1st year anniversary trip. When will you be there? Have a great time! We too are counting down the days!
we will be in Rome From Oct 3-9 and Siena 9-13 and Venice 13-17. What about you?
I concur with the gelato eating advice and definatley go see the Trevi Fountain at night, it is much more beautiful at night and less crowded. Also the square with the Pantheon is quite nice at night as well.
We will be in Rome Oct 7-10, Cinque Terre 10-12, Montalcino 12-15, Florence 15-16, Venice 16-18.
Julia, we might bump into each other in Rome or Venice then. heehee~ It is funny how you guys are celebrating your first anniversary there too. Remember last Oct, we were in Bora Bora for our honeymoon, same thing happened where every couple we met, were honeymooners. This is great! Italy is no doubt, another romantic country to visit :)
same thing for us in hawaii...even on the plane there!
The square in front of the Pantheon at night was my favorite spot in Rome. I'd head there, have some dinner (not on the piazza but a block or so in), then finish with a gelato - there is a wonderful gelateria just to the right of the Pantheon as you look at it (really good pistachio gelato).
I agree it will probably be about 8:30 before you are in Rome, which is the perfect time for dinner. The evening stroll is really over by 8:30 but the streets aren't empty. One of Rick's walks includes the Trevi fountain. It's really impressive at night. I'd do some or all of that walk after dinner, then get a good night's sleep.
