Oct. or Sept. In Venice?

I am FINALLY planning(after wanting to go for 40 years)my trip to Venice!! I am going next year(2018)for 2 weeks and can go any 2 weeks in Sept. or Oct. When during that time would be the best time to go? So far the suggestions I have read are so all over the place that I am just getting confused so I was hoping to get some better info here.
Thank you,
Carolyn Sawyer

I would go in October. Fewer tourists, maybe, and milder temperatures. Summer in Venice is hot and sometimes that lasts into September.

I second what Swan said. In fact, we're doing what Swan said :).

We spent the whole month of October in Venice in 2013. The weather was perfect--warm but not hot, and only 1 day of serious rain. Crowds were starting to abate by mid-month. There was a threatened acqua alta the day after we left, but it did not materialize.

In 2015 we returned for a week at the beginning of October. The weather was also very nice that visit.

Airfare to Europe is generally lower in price in October than the summer months ( including September).

I was in Venice in late October (Halloween!). The weather was perfect: 70's in the day and there were NO crowds!

The Regatta Storica takes place in early September every year, maybe the first weekend of the month but double check. They bring out very decorated gondolas and hold races down the Grand Canal. We went one year and found it very interesting to watch.
