I have flight arrives in venice at 5pm....how to get from airport to padua? fastest and easiest. any recommendations for hotel in venice area that first night?...don't really care too much about doing the canal thing.

There is a direct bus from the Venice airport to Padova. However, if you're staying in Venice your first night, it would be more convenient for you to take the train to Padova.

If Venice doesn't interest you, I'd take that bus directly to Padua and stay an extra night there. I found lots to do in Padua and didn't allow enough time to see everything on the list!

The bus company for the bus from the airport is FSBusitalia, and it looks like they run until 10:40 at night, at least in the summer.
