I would love some advice about basing myself in Oberbozen/Soprabolzano in December for Advent.
I am considering 3-4 nights at the Parkhotel Holzner to experience the Rittner Christbahnl - Christmas Train Market and perhaps do some winter walking/hiking.
With 3-4 nights, I would also want to take a day trip to a nearby town to experience a different Christmas market (maybe Lake Carezza, Chiusa or Sarntal).
It appears fast and convenient to get up to Soprabolzano (10 minutes walk from the train station to the funicular). I understand that cars leave every 4 minutes and the trip takes 15 minutes to the top. Is this reliable and realistic?
Alternately, I can base myself in Bolzano near the train station, but this does not seem charming or relaxing. I fear the Bolzano Christmas market might be too crowded and touristy??
Have you stayed in or visited Oberbozen? Would you recommend it knowing my goals and intentions?
