NYE - Florence

Wife & I booked B&B right near Duomo. What is best to do for NYE? Where is best spot to get great pictures of fireworks with landmarks whether Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, etc. in the pics? Definitely want to get the best pics we can and I am sure everywhere will be fun. Any advice on most fun outside areas / squares? Other suggestions?

I imagine the best spot for pictures would be from Piazzale Michelangelo and you probably need to be there hours in advance to secure and hold a good spot to take them from so if you want great pictures you may not also be able to have any fun :)

What is best to do for NYE?
That is a subjective question. So it's really up to your personal taste. Some like to go to dinner, others like to go to a dancing club, others like to stay home with friends and family, others like to celebrate in the streets.
There is generally music and dancing on stage on Piazza della Repubblica, and maybe Piazza della Signoria. But it gets very crowded with youngsters from all over the world who like to drink a lot. I've done the street thing once for the millennium in Florence (1999 to 2000) and it was the biggest crowded mess I've ever been in, with people wasted vomiting and pissing everywhere. Not for me anymore at my age. Now I'd rather go to Hawaii (too cold in Florence in Jan).

The fireworks are on Piazzale Michelangelo. I good place to watch them is along the river Arno either on the Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia, or around Piazza Poggi on the Lungarno Serristori/Lungarno Cellini

with landmarks
From the Lungarno Serristori or Lungarno Cellini, you can see the Duomo in the distance. If you are closer to Ponte alle Grazie, you can also get a great shot of Ponte Vecchio.

I don't know how you could get the fireworks and the Duomo (or Ponte Vecchio) on the same picture. You could be on Lungarno degli Acciaiouli or Ponte Santa Trinita and get a shot of the fireworks behind the Ponte Vecchio, although you'd be a little farther from the fireworks.

Thank you so much! I have done NYE in Prague, Paris, Istanbul, and of course in Florida, USA where we are from. I understand, we are 40-43 now, I still have a crazy young streak in me but don't necessarily want to be in too MUCH craziness. Definitely down for a crowd that is fun loving but not too young and crazy. Probably do dinner earlier so just want to experience the culture, the fireworks with lots of people but not like at a heavy metal concert. A beautiful spot on a hill where we can see the fireworks and city or a square/plaza that's fun but we can move around a little bit though I do admit in Prague we got there hrs early and got up on the bridge by the rail and got amzaing fireworks with lots of people and enjoyed it. But we had hit the square hours before and mingled, had hot wine, etc and enjoyed the people and culture.
