Any suggestions to wind down for about 5 days after Rome..will be solo. Thinking of Assisi
Assisi is lovely, but after a day or two, not much to do even if you want down time. How about Sorrento? Might be a little warmer, and you can do as much or as little as you like: see Pompeii (or not); take the bus to Amalfi (or not). Also Venice comes to mind.... We can spend days just walking around Venice and doing nothing in particular. The lack of cars makes it very relaxing. Here's a report on our last trip to Venice which was in December. Might give you some ideas.
Assisi sounds fine, so does the Amalfi Coast. If you've never been to Umbria, there are a number of places to visit: Gubbio, Todi, Assisi, Spello. Consider Orvieto, which many people do as a day trip from Rome, but if you spend a few nights there you will feel very much at home (and the wine is great). There are good transportation links to other towns as well.
I am so appreciative of the contibutins to this help line. It is really helping me to plan my trip to Italy.
We were there last November. If I had to make a choice, it would be the Sorrento & the Amalfi coast. I could easily fill five days there. The weather was much better as well.
