November Trip

We are arriving in Rome Nov. 10th. We understand that it is rainy season so we thought we would head to the Amalfi coast. We want to stay at a place where we can enjoy coastal views on a balcony if we stay in the room because of weather. We booked 3 nights in Sorrento because I understand it is easy to get to by train from Rome. Where else can we go from Sorrento that would be easy to get to for a few more night with views. Or should we nix Sorrento and go somewhere else for 6 nights. All suggestions welcomed. We will stay in Rome for 2 nights before we fly home.

Frankly, any of the coastal areas wouldn't be my choice in Nov. And Sorrento isn't on the AC; it's on the Bay of Naples. However it is a logical location for day trips to other places like Pompeii, Naples and Capri, or the AC towns by bus. The AC ferries will have ceased their runs by Nov, and many of the tourist places closed.

We often travel to Europe in the off season, but prefer to concentrate on cities or larger towns with an abundance of inside attractions, should the weather turn wet and/or cold. Rome can always use 3 or 4 days, as can Florence. Day trips from Florence could include days exploring Siena, Pisa, Lucca, and a van tour of wineries or the Tuscan hilltowns.

We spent most of last November in Rome. It was wonderful getting to get to know a neighborhood better. On cold rainy days we focused on museums. It was rather dark and chilly at times, but other days were clear and sunny. Overall, it was wonderful to not have all the crowds. I recommend being in a larger city.

We learned the hard way when we had really bad weather in May, 2023-
there are no coastal views when it's really foggy and rainy. We had a room in Sorrento with a large balcony over the Bay, and it wasn't until the third day that we could see any of Vesuvius. The wall of fog started at the end of our large balcony terrace. Good luck!
