november or june

As I have written before, going to Italy with my grandaughters. Since they are both in school, one is a senior this year and we worry about her missing school, we were thinking about going around Thanksgiving break in November, or after graduation the middle of June, or maybe spring break in May. We want to see Venice, Florence, Amafi Coast, Rome and Palermo. When is the best time? What would November be like? THANKS

Ginny,

I have been to Italy twice in November and the weather was beautiful. A sweater and light jacket required. Venice is a little cooler but still quite nice. the rates are cheaper and less crowds. Enjoy

Your itinerary seems quite busy. How long are you going for? You want to make sure you spend enough time in each place so you can see as much as possible. There is much to see in Rome and you need to figure in your travel times between each city. Are you going to travel by train? Don't try to fit in too much if you are on a limited time frame as I don't think you'll enjoy it as much. Have fun!!!

I agree that a your schedule is quite ambitious for a Thanksgiving break. I would definately cut out Palermo. I love Sicily but for your timeframe it will require too much time to/from Palermo. In November your money will get you much more for accommodations than the high season of June.

No contest, IMHO, go in November. June is crowded everywhere in Italy.

Ginny,

I agree with the others in that adding Palermo to the list is a bit "ambitious".

Of the two months you listed, unfortunately I disagree with the others - my choice would be June. While the weather can be favourable in November, it's a bit of a chance. Although things will be busier in June, if you plan your touring well and pre-book accomodations, this is manageable. Of course May or September would be better, but I gather those aren't an option.

Just to clarify, how long would your trip be?

Cheers!
