November in Italy

What's the best type of jacket to take? Thanks!

Layers, layers, layers. The weather may be very mild, especially in the south and in coastal areas. It may also turn cold. Rain is likely at least some of the time. What region(s) of Italy will you be visiting?

My standby is a water-repellent lightweight trench-style coat with a zip-out lining and a couple of neck scarves, one woolly and the other more lightweight silk. I also travel with a foldable rain hat, because umbrellas can be awkward in crowded areas, or useless if the rain comes sideways.

Why a trench coat instead of a parka? Because it looks a little more dressy, the better to blend in with locals who are on their way to work etc. Just my taste, but IMO a parka on city streets gives the appearance of "Hey everyone, I'm on vacation."

Rome, Florence, and Venice. You've helped me decide on my trench. I will spray it with some Scotch Guard for added protection. Thanks!

Hi,
You can have your dry cleaners water proof your clothing. Mine does it for $7.00.
