November for Italy trip?

We are thinking that southern Italy--south of Naples around the Amalfi Coast or Salerno--would be a good time to book a month's stay. Has anyone experienced Italy in this month? If so, was it a good choice? How and Why?

November tends to be one of the rainier months in Italy. Also, the areas away from the larger cities sometimes start shutting down for the season.
