THERE WILL BE 4 DAYS OF OUR 10 DAY TRIP WHERE WE WOULD LIKE TO WING IT. OCT. 9-12 NOT QUITE SURE ABOUT HOW LONG TO STAY IN CINQUE TERRE AND LAKE COMO. HOW SPONTANEOUS CAN WE BECONCERNING HOTEL RESERVATIONS?

Mady - We will be both places in early October - we got our reservations in March (we couldn't get rooms at Hotel Villa Steno - where we wanted to stay in Monterosso). I am not sure I'd wing it - you might get online and start checking availability at the places you'd like to stay. We are 3 couples so it made sense for us to plan ahead with reservations. Have fun.

In Monterosso there is a "Pro Loco" (TI) on the main street just after exiting the train station. During regular business hours they are open for same day housing. Outside is a list of hotels with phone numbers and locations (on a map). Even in Oct. I would recommend not arriving on Fri or Sat, but you'll probably be able to find something in one of the towns. Get info about the other CT towns from a Rick Steves book. Riomaggiore has lots of housing, too.
