Not a question but a comment about Italian hotels

Years ago when I first started traveling, it was never a problem finding a place to stay that had two beds. Not everyone who travels together is a couple, and hotels and B&Bs and pensiones always had twin beds that they would put together or pull apart as the guests preferred. But now, there seems to be a trend to put in queen beds when hotels refurbish and it has become rather difficult to find a room with two beds in Italy. Last May, my daughter and I felt very special on our round platform bed in Bari! While booking hotels for my next trip to Italy, one place said they would accomodate my request for twin beds but it would cost an extra 20 euros/night. I just wonder why they are limiting themselves to certain guests, or is is because so many people complained about the crack down the middle when twins were put together? So I guess I do have a question!

I would agree with your observation. Am guessing that it is a response to the market or the market as they hear it. I have read and heard more complaints about the twin bed set-ups than double beds. Most American hotels/motels are double queen or king simply because we have the room for those bed arrangements. So a lot of Americans expect that arrangement when they travel in Europe and are vocal when they cannot find it. And, I suppose, you can argue that a twin bed set up is more work for the maid so that is why an extra 20E is charged. This past summer about half of our rooms were twin set up and that was more so in northern Europe. We were just booking doubles with no specific request for either twin or single bed.
