Norwegian flight changed to Privilege Style from EWR to FCO

Has anyone had this happen to them?? I received a text two days ago saying Norwegian changed our plane. Same times but different carrier with less options. There are a ton of comments on Trip Advisor but this has never happened to me before and 5 of us will be traveling together. I have NEVER heard of the airline and from what I read the planes are very old. Not feeling very easy with this but it will be too late to change our carrier without paying a lot more....

I have never heard of that. Norwegian is expanding service rapidly--about as fast Boeing will deliver new airplanes. They are not flying to every market every day.
It is doubtful that Norwegian Air Shuttle has extra 787 Dreamliner airplanes sitting around. If they have service problems or scheduling problems, they may have to fill in with charter airlines. Most of their domestic European airplanes don't have the range or passenger capability to fly that route.
We flew from Dublin to Newburgh, NY Saturday on one of their new 737 Max planes. I would say to was 3/4 full. The new Max is a great airplane, but we were about at its maximum flying range. But 7 hours without an in flight video system was a downer for me.

That stinks!
I am flying them from Boston and checked my flight after reading your post and does not seem to have changed from the Dreamliner.

They are definitely not making customers happy with this, hopefully it is due to the required engine changes and not a cost cutting issue with your flight in question.

Thanks Alan, for the article I could not find that when I searched. We still have Norweigan coming home on Sept 24 so perhaps they will be fixed then. But I'd rather be safe and now will load up on movies and shows on my iPad.

We also ended up on Privilege Style round trip from Newark to Rome and they were the most MISERABLE flights of my life. We too had purchased tickets based on the reputation and good reviews I had heard from others about Norwegian. Instead I spent both flights crammed into the smallest seats I have every experienced on a flight, ones which offered absolutely no support or cushioning. They were so bad I couldn't even lean my head back because the headrest was too far away from where it normally should be and even sad airplane pillows weren't available. All of this leading to 9-10 hours of excruciating pain which required a visit to my physical therapist the day after I returned home to relieve the pain in my back, hips, and legs. In addition to this, there was absolutely no in-flight entertainment (not even a flight map), no air vents for circulation or decent climate control, spending most of the flight overheating as we were packed in like sardines (even more so than I am used to in economy seats).

I will cancel my vacation before I would ever fly Privilege Style again and doubt I will even be willing to try Norwegian again after this horrendous experience. A wonderful vacation absolutely destroyed by the flights which book-ended it.

What now confuses me is I contacted Norwegian weeks ago, could only do 'chat' could not get a live person, but the chat person told me the planes are identical and even our seats will be the same and its not changed on our reservation. But all the same very confusing. AND they said we do not need to do a 24 hr hour precheck. they said just show up. very odd. So of course I will need to call and call till I get through to a live rep talk ask.

What exactly are you so worried about that would cause you to consider going with another carrier? That's sounds like an overreaction. Carriers do change planes for various operational reasons, but I don't see any safety implications as the whole fleet is regulated under EU rules or it wouldn't be in service. If a minute ago you've never heard of the airline, then surely you had no firm expectations... so why is this change so alarming?

Agnes I think the post above by tbmyoung is reason enough to be concerned.
I have read similar comments above those "Privledge" flights that Norwegian switched some flights to.
Zero comfort and zero in flight entertainment for an 8 hour flight that is concerning (worse than any other airline's offering at least)

As far as the 24 hour pre-check.
Not a big deal, my Norwegian to Paris flight out of Boston was the same way. They implied all of their flights out of Boston have no precheck allowed just show up.
The Dreamliner planes they use are really nice ; comfortable coach seats, good seat back entertainment, etc...
Shame you can right now not count on getting one.
Our flight was good ; a few hours delayed leaving Logan which meant a long night waiting.

I don't see it as a safety risk though and given the cost of a last minute change I would just make sure I charged up the ipad and/or laptop with some movies and make do at this point ; think you have a right to be upset though.

ok well the 24 hour check in that is not required is good to know, but now our seats 4 people are right with each other, I have no way to know if they are NOT changing them and I would like my family to all sit together for such a long flight.

Does anyone have any updates on Norwegian Airlines, I am flying from Rome to Newark on October 12th and heard that Norwegian may have their planes back in the air by then. Just curious. I am really worried about flying on Privilege Style but it is too costly to change my flight. Has anyone flown on Privilege lately?
