Northern Italy where to stay Lake region and CT

I am narrowing down my destinations : Lake Como Bellagio vs Varenna what has the best options for evening dinner etc
Also considering a stay in Santa Margherita and day trips to CT vs staying either in Vernazza or Monterosso. We will stay in each area 4 nites each. We will also spend 4 days ea in Venice & Florence

Stephanie, It's probably safe to say that most here prefer staying in Varenna. Bellagio tends to be a bit more "upscale", so the costs may be higher. Regarding locations for the C.T., you might have a look at the Guidebook to determine which of the five villages best fits your preferences. Monterosso is larger, so has a greater choice of restaurants and hotels, but many here prefer Vernazza. Staying in one of the five villages will make it easier to explore each of them and hike the trails (rather than having to travel from Santa Margherita). Whichever option you choose, I'd suggest pre-booking accommodations well before your travel dates. It recently took me several days to arrange a room in the C.T. for September, which required some "adjustments" to my Itinerary. Happy travels!
