Northern Italy to Salzburg area via train/which route to take

Hi
I'll have a rental car in Tuscany area early June - it's the same price to drop the car off somewhere North as dropping back at PSA - so we will drive part of the way (plan is to go the Salzburg area after Tuscany). My question is which is the best train route to take and easiest drop off area???
I was either going to drop off in Udine (take train via Villach to Salzburg) or Trieste port - take bus to Ljubljana for an overnight and then travel bus/train on the Salzburg. Then I realized I could take the Brenner pass train- dropping off in Verona?? Any advice appreciated! Thanks

Hi again,
Before I firm up plans I'd like to make sure it's a good option re. above.

I plan on dropping rental car (by train station) in Verona by lunch time - stay the night/explore and then take the Brenner pass train to Salzburg from there? Looks slightly longer but I think better option than Udine or Trieste drop-off (above)?? Thanks
