Northern Italy question

We are in Venice and leaving for Milan in a few days. We are spending one day at St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace. We are trying to decide what to do the last day. We are considering taking the train to Verona and spending a few hours there and then visiting Sirmione. Has anyone done something like this or have any other ideas? When we’re in Milan we are planning one day somewhere on Lake Maggiore.

I would spend more time in Venice. Go to Murano and Burano (and Torcello) or wander around and get lost in the back streets. Get away from the crowds in the station-Rialto-San Marco corridor.

As already suggested, visit Murano and Burano.
Possibly Torcello - small island with ancient church en route to above.
Also the beautiful and peaceful cemetery island of San Michele - Ezra Pound, Diaghilev and Stravinksy are buried there.

Train trip to Verona would be possible.

Sirmione doesn't have train.
