This is going to be my first trip to Italy. I am going to be in Northern Italy for a couple of weeks, based near Turin, I was just wondering what are some fun trips that I could take only using 2-3 days on weekends? Just starting the planning, and any info is good. I have read Rick's Italy book and I have some ideas.
Here are some ideas:MilanLake ComoCinque Terre
We spent about five days staying outside of Torino at Cocconato, and did day trips north into the mountains, and thru the Mt. Blanc tunnel to Chamonix (the mountain lifts were closed so we drove). The trip over the mountains as described in Rick's book would be a very doable day trip if the weather and lifts cooperated. The area is famous for its champagne type wines (Asti) so you probably could find a wine tour. Enjoy, it is a beautiful area. And remember to eat some of the finest chocolate in the world!
