Can anyone suggest a nice bed and breakfast in the lake Maggione region, maybe near the Lugano area? We prefer outskirts of cities, scenic views, we are older.

If you don't get any helpful responses, I'm sure the RS Italy book contains recommendations for Lago Maggiore (note that it is not "Maggione"). Good luck and happy travels.

Do you mean Locarno? Lugano is not on Lago Maggiore. For a nice area outside of Locarno, you might look for something in Ascona. But these towns are all in Switzerland, not Italy. For something farther down th elake, in Italy, you might try the charming Hotel Belvadere, on an island just off from Stresa: http://www.belvedere-isolapescatori.it/
