Northern Italy Itinerary in September

First time travelers to Italy, we have approx. 14 nights (not including travel days), It is important for us to be able to see sights/visit museums, while also enjoy relaxing/wine tasting and "beach time". Traveling in early September.

Does this make sense:
Fly into either Pisa or Florence
4 nights in Florence (or Tuscany hillside town) Suggestions for a base location?--we plan on taking some day trips from wherever we end up staying so will have a car. Prefer "hillside" area to busy cities, but also want to be centrally located.
3 nights CT (travel by train)
3 nights Lake Como area (travel by train)
4 nights Venice (travel by train)
Fly home from Venice

Thanks for any input!

An agriturismo near Poggibonsi gives you the flexibility for using the train to Florence. You are also close to San Gimignano and Siena.

If you are going to have a car, stay outside of Florence and plan to take public trans into the city when you want to visit. By "outside of" I mean either an agriturismo as David suggests or a hotel outside of the ZTL. I have not stayed here, but friends recommend Hotel David, complete with parking and outside the ZTL.

Keep your car as far as La Spezia, then take the train into your Cinque Terre town-of-choice.
