Northern Italy Itinerary

Hi,

My husband and I are traveling to Italy next month (mid may to end of may) and are planning to do Milan (Land in Milan), Lake Como, CT, Florence and Venice (fly home from Venice).

Will Cinque Terre be super crowded at that time? Are we better off visiting the Italian Riviera portion near Portofino and Camogli?

We still haven't booked the accomodations so we can still change our plans. In Cinque Terre, is staying Monterosso better than Vernazza?

Two nights is painfully short for Venice. I'm afraid a large percentage of your time will be spent in the mob scene between the train station, Rialto Bridge and San Marco.

This is a short trip; do you really need three watery destinations? They're all attractive areas (though two can be unpleasantly crowded during day-tripping hours), but sometimes less is more.

We have to be in Florence for 3 specific days , so we can't add more time to Venice unfortunately. We thought it would be wiser to fly home from Venice, even if it's a short stay there. Otherwise we'd do unnecessary rides back to Rome or Milan airports..

As much as I did love the Cinque Terre, it was several years ago before it became so over crowded. I understand you like fast pace trips, but really this is more like a check off the bucket list trip then let's enjoy ourselves type trip. I suggest, you cut Cinque Terre and add at least one night to Lake Como if not both. If one night take a daytrip from Florence for your other night. Maybe Lucca? Or, add another night to Milan. Maybe a daytrip to Bergamo?
