Northern Italy in October - Weather/Packing Planning

We’re doing a ~3 week Italy trip with RS tour from late September through 10/17. Trying to understand packing needs as we’ll be in Lake Como then the Dolomites at the beginning. Trying to gauge how warm we’ll need to be early in the tour given that we’ll end in Rome mid-October and want to avoid overpacking (sweats/heavier clothing) if necessary.

Anyone else do similar tours and can advise on Dolomites weather so we don’t over/under compensate? Seems like that might shuffle up packing needs vs spending the rest of the trip moving south to Rome by mid-October.

You will want a jacket/coat for the Dolomites, as well as later October in the evenings elsewhere in Italy. That said, it is still pretty warm in Italy in September and early October. Layers are key.

You can definitely encounter snow in the Dolomites in October so also suggest bringing a hat and gloves. Another option is to pack light with the hope the weather is pleasant. If it ends up being blustery, you can always visit a local shop and buy hats, gloves, etc. There are shops and markets in most of the towns.
