Northern Italy for Two Weeks in November

Hi,

We are a late 20s couple visiting Italy in November for the first time. Other than the more famous touristy spots in Rome up front, we are pretty much open to anything and generally have a very laid-back style of travel. We like to walk around, eat food, grab drinks, pop into whatever looks interesting and explore. We don't plan on renting a car (hence skipping the usual Tuscany on this type of loop). Just looking for thoughts on where we should stay longer, shorter, skip, go instead, etc.

Here is a rough idea of what we thinking:

1 - Arrive mid-day in Rome, settle in
2 - Rome
3 - Rome
4 - Train to Florence, spend the day in Florence
5 - Florence (Maybe day trip to Siena?)
6 - Florence (Maybe day trip to cinque terra?)
7 - Travel to Venice early, spend rest of day in Venice
8 - Venice
9 - leave Venice to Lake Como (via train to Milan)
10 - Como
11 - Como
12 - travel to Milan, spend remainder of day in Milan
13 - early flight out of Milan

Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

For Lake Como, you don’t want to stay in the city of Como on south end of the lake. Mid lake is much more scenic- Bellagio, Menaggio, Cadenabbia, Varenna. There is ferry service north from Como, both high speed and scenic, but maybe not in November. Buses on west coast, train on east coast.

I'd skip the day trip to Cinque Terre. It's one of my favorite places but I'm not sure it would be worth it in November. Also you are only giving yourself basically part of a day in Florence, it deserves more time IMHO. Personally I'd give another day to Venice and cut one from Lake Como.

ill be in venice as well in november. my home base is venice but i will be taking day trips to padua, vincenza, verona and bologna. i think you'd like padua as being in your late 20s. lots to do and see in those smaller towns.
