We will be flying into Milan in September and staying at a friends apartment in Sarnico for 10 days. Sarnico is on Lake Iseo near Bergamo. We are looking for suggestions for day trips to must see places. We don;t mind taking a train for 2 hours or so and we will also be renting a car. You will be very close to Brescia which is definitely worth visiting. It is an interesting town of connecting grand piazzas and has some amazing Roman ruins and castle on top of the hill to explore.
Verona is only another 35 minutes past Brescia on the train and is very pretty medieval town in the bend in the river based on the old Roman town plan. They have mostly pedestrian downtown with an intact Roman Arena and Theatre and many great restaurants.
Lake Garda is interesting and has many towns to explore but since you're already on a lake that may or may not interest you.
