Well, all three times we've spent the whole month of September in northern Italy it was so hot I swore I'd never go in September again. But I do hate heat more than most people. Early October has always been cooler.

Overall October is a lovely month in Italy, but a lot depends on exactly where you are going. It should be not-too-hot nor too rainy in the cities, but the mountains are starting to shut down some lifts and routes. Beaches are definitely in off-season mode. Can you fill us in on the itinerary?

I was in Tuscany and Verona area last year in October and is was still in the low 80s and high 70s for several weeks and then suddenly snapped and was 65 for one day and the high 60s/low 70s but felt like fall not summer - if that makes sense. I know it was an usual year and all the locals were very ready for autunno to finally begin.

I think the beginning of October is the perfect time to go on a nature oriented tour. As I learned last year every year is different so keep any eye on it to see how this year is and be sure to take some rain gear but I say "Go for it!".

Have a great trip,
