We are looking for help planning an itinerary that includes Venice, northern Italy but not Florence, lakes district and Switzerland. Probably 16 days maximum.
How are you intending to travel between locations?
And when?
Welcome to the forum!
Start with some good guide books and a map
Flying IN to Venice is easier than out of so consider starting there. Milan is also an option
Depart from Zurich or Geneva
Look for multi city flights -not 2 one way tickets
When is this trip? Have you traveled in Europe before? Who is we? Any mobility issues?
What are you interests?

I frequently hear comments about flying IN to Venice and not OUT. I'm sure it is typically good advice, but we flew out of Venice and our flight was at noon. So many on the forum seem to come from the coasts, so perhaps that advice is sound for those folks. I "tinker" alot with itineraries in an attempt to get the best values on flights and hotels. So, just a suggestion, as a first query, maybe check to see flight times both in and out of Venice before getting deep into itinerary planning.
You are right Jules
We have flown out of Venice leaving around 11 and will again this fall but we fly direct to East Coast
The majority will be flying somewhere in Europe to change to their direct to US and those flights do leave at the crack of
It’s not impossible to get to those flights, it just takes a bit of figuring out transportation and often extra expense
Venice is also a great place to get over jet lag so never a bad thing place to start a trip
Good advice to figure out best entry and departure points before getting too far along with planning
Thanks for flight suggestions. Looks like into Venice and out of Zurich makes sense. It will be my husband and me. We have traveled to Europe many times. Retired, active but not mountain climbers by any means. More interested in strolls through an alpine meadow with wonderful vistas. This trip will be more about the scenery and enjoying charming towns; not museums/history, except Venice of course. Looks like trains will work - we are not driving. Any suggestions for favorite lake/towns in the Lake District and best towns to visit between Venice and the lakes?
