Northern Italian Park

Approximately 30 years ago my late parents visited a park/garden outside of Milan. It was so large visitors were required to drive through it. They could park the car and explore an area on foot once they were within the park. I believe the grounds were at one time owned by a physician in the area. Unfortunately, I do not recall the name of the park. My husband and I would like to visit it next year.

Does anyone have any information regarding this park? Is it still in existence? What is its name and location? Thank you for any assistance you can give us.

One of the largest parks in Italy occupies the northern and greater part of the Monza municipaliy, a town north of Milan. It is so large to include the F1 car racetrack, but the racetrack area occupies less than half of the total park area. It has one or two main routes crossing it (sometimes open to driving, sometimes closed). The park was established at the beginning of 19th century, adjoining a formerly Austrian royal villa. But, as far as I know, it was never privately owned. At a time, the royal villa was used by Italian royalty and Italy's king Umberto was shot in 1901 just out of the park doors.

Thank you Iachera. I am sure we will be able to find the park with the information you gave us. Do you know if the park is open to driving on a regular schedule or do we take our chances and hope it is open when we visit? Thank you again for your help.
