nonsmoking hotels venice?

Does anyone have any recommendations about hotels or apartments in Venice that are truly nonsmoking? I have asthma and have to be careful and know that Italy is fairly smoky, but maybe somebody has the same issue and can recommend someplace that worked for you. I'm looking for something that really had nonsmoking rooms that were nonsmoking.

I didn't find Italy very smoky, I think it is going non smoking too,, I do notice the smoke the most at outdoor cafes since all the smokers sit outside, at least that is what I noticed. The situation is slowly improving across many Europeon countries.

We stayed at Al Piave last year and there was no smoking. I have asthma, too, and specifically asked about this. It was a nice clean hotel in a really interesting area--not the main tourist drag. I never smelled a whiff of smoke at the hotel, and I expect if I had, the owners would have too, since it is a very small hotel. If you have any mobility issues, though, getting to the hotel might be a problem as you do have to wend your way there from the vaporetto stop.

I believe Italy has past smokefree laws that prohibit smoking in all public places including restaurants and hotels. Of course you can still smoke at outside cafes.

We like the Hotel Campiello. They have apartments, also. You could email and ask them about the smokng... but as other posters have stated I think they may have rules now about smoking. I have never seen anyone smoke in the Campiello.... it is in a great location.. great buffet breakfast, air-conditioning...elevator, computer to use...

April, 2008 we stayed at Hotel al Ponte Mocenigo.
We both liked it very much. www.alpontemocenigo.com
Has a small courtyard with fountain/tables/chairs that you walk through to get into the hotel. We had drinks here in the evenings with other travelers and enjoyed meeting them. The breakfast is very small/croissants/cheese/fruit/yogurt/juice/ coffee (she made great capuccino's and would start making it as soon as she saw me in the morning). We were in the room right off the lobby which opened up onto the courtyard, also. We could hear people talking outside from the room so we joined them, but the room and bathroom were large and nice. We will definitely stay there again. Room, service, quiet neighborhood and value were great. Did get the RS discount.Walter and Sandro were friendly and helpful. Take a look at it.
