Non-touristy places to visit near Venice

We land in Venice on Friday, June 26th at 8:30 a.m. and will have all day Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning, to explore. We already have a hotel booked in Verona for Monday night, with a wine tour scheduled for Monday and a wedding welcome event that evening, followed by the wedding in Verona on Tuesday.

We’ve visited both Venice (Murano & Burano as well) and Verona before and absolutely loved them, but this time we’d like to explore some new places during the weekend prior to our wedding activities. We’re looking for recommendations for charming towns or small cities to visit on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday morning that are close to Venice and not overly touristy.

We know it will be very hot (we didn’t choose the wedding date!), so no need to warn us about the heat.

We especially enjoy cooking classes, wine tours, walking food tours, and live music, so any suggestions along those lines would be wonderful. Or just quaint places to shop, dine, and stroll.

Thanks so much in advance for any recommendations—we truly appreciate your help!

Agree with the suggestion of Padua (Padova) and Vicenza. The former has more tourist, and the latter has a much quieter feel. Both have great food and places to just stroll,

Treviso, Conegliano, Vicenza (a favorite of mine)- are all worth visiting.

San Michele island (Cimitero) is Venice’s historic cemetery. It’s an easy vaporetto ride over to an oasis of quiet beauty and amazing history. You could arrange a tour or just visit on your own.

New here but have been in that area several times before.

I love Vicenza and the surrounding area. In addition to the larger cities already mentioned some smaller more quaint places with interesting history include Cittadella, Marostica, Castel Franco, maybe Bassano. You could also head up to Garda Lake and the lower Dolomites.
