Non-touristy Beach Towns in SE Sicily to Stay in as a Base for Ragusa Area

Since October is off season and it may or may not be beach weather, many smaller destinations may be kind of dead in October. I would consider the towns or Pozzallo or Marina di Ragusa, both of which are likely to have some life off season. Marina di Modica may be another option. But if you like really quaint then Scicli is the best, but it’s not on the beach, just near.

We are currently in Marina di Ragusa as a base for two weeks. Exquisite! Incredible beach, clean, crystal clear! Wonderful, kind, helpful people! Very local vibe, families, people, children gather in the evenings on the piazza. A perfect place, easy drive around the area! Bellissima!!

Also, lots if cyclists and biking!

Pardon my jumping in. I have the same idea to stay in Scicli or Marina di Ragusa in order to end our day at the seaside.

We are traveling in September. Any advice how to find accommodations in Marina di Ragusa such as a villa rental company? Or best spot to of town to search?

One strategy I use is to go to Google Maps, zoom in into the area where I want to stay, then enter “hotels” in the search box. Lots of accommodations will pop up on the map. Then click on each one by one and see what they look like on the Google photos which also will appear. You can often also get their websites that way. The websites where Italians most often put their vacation rental properties for display are www.booking.com, www.vrbo.com, www.airbnb.com. If you want something more specific to Italy, that Italians also use a lot is www.casevacanze.it, but I’ve never used it, so I can’t tell you how it is.

We stayed a week, with a rental car, just outside Marina di Ragusa, in September 2024.
