non-smoking hotel rooms

What is the situation regarding smoking/non-smoking rooms? We have booked 3 hotels so far and it just occurred to me that nobody has mentioned this. I don't want to spend 2 week in stinky rooms.
Thanks. Julia

It's best to request "non-smoking" when making a reservation. In the hotels in Europe that I have stayed in over the past few years, most were non-smoking hotels, but some had only some non-smoking rooms.

most hotels state on their websites if they are non smoking hotels. You should check the hotels you have booked. Also specify on your reservation if they do not post it on their website

Most hotels are non smoking now and if they do allow it you usually have to request a smoking room. Is best to check though.
